Here are a few tips for throwing a surprise wedding.
- Disguise the celebration as something else. It's not really a surprise it everybody knows what it is so throw an alternative event such as a birthday party, baby naming ceremony or just a get big together. Make sure the people who you want there have enough reason and notice to attend! Nothing worse than a wedding without your most important people.
- Use a neutral venue. Come to my party at the local church might raise a few flags so the less obvious the venue the less people are going to catch on before the surprise. A home garden is a great location or a local venue not known solely for weddings
- Hire a celebrant. Having the vicar over for the evening do might raise a few eyebrows and somebody will probably click that something is awry so a celebrant is a perfect alternative. You can plan the whole event with them before and they can blend in as a friend of the family until the big reveal!
- Get some trusted alibis. Not only will they be able to help with organising and setting everything up, they will help create the illusion that everything is as it is until the big moment. They will also help you carry the burden of your 'dirty little secret'.
