Liz & Charlie’s Halloween Wedding at Holmes Mill

Gothic style chic at Holmes Mill

Some weddings just ooze personality, and Liz & Charlie’s Halloween-inspired day at Holmes Mill in Clitheroe was an absolute vibe. Taking place on 1st November 2024, this alternative wedding was packed with gothic touches, killer music, and plenty of personal flair. From skulls and pumpkins to The Cure lyrics and custom Doc Martens, this was a wedding that truly reflected the couple.

Alternative Elegance with a Halloween Twist

Liz & Charlie wanted a day that felt like them — fun, personal, and totally unconventional. Their colour scheme of red and white flowers, paired with small ceramic pumpkins with tea light candles, set the perfect moody autumnal scene. Charlie’s look was next level — a black suit jacket adorned with a spider skull pendant chain, a skull and crossbones tie, and a red rose boutonnière. Hidden on the back of his tie was a small picture of his late grandad, a beautiful and personal touch.

Liz’s look was just as epic — a stunning white dress, a veil dotted with tiny moons, nails painted with flaming hearts, crosses, and roses, and custom white Doc Martens finished with a ‘Just Married’ tag. Their cake was a gothic masterpiece too — all jet black with ‘’Til Death’ in red writing and topped with cherries. Absolute perfection.

A Personal Ceremony with Plenty of Laughs

The ceremony took place upstairs at Holmes Mill and was led by the brilliant Hazel the Rainbow Celebrant. Her personal stories and fun anecdotes about Liz & Charlie had everyone laughing (and maybe tearing up a bit). It’s always special when a ceremony feels like it’s been tailor-made just for the couple.

Hazel The Rainbow Celebrant offers unique and personalised ceremonies.

Couples Shoot, Confetti Magic & Bowling Shenanigans

After the ceremony, we snuck back into the empty ceremony room for an intimate little couples shoot while the guests explored the venue. Holmes Mill has so much to offer, including its epic mini bowling hall. Guests of all ages got stuck into the 10-pin bowling lanes — and, of course, I couldn’t resist grabbing some slow-motion shots of bowling balls smashing into pins and the general chaos and fun.

The confetti shot was another absolute highlight — slow-motion heaven again! Red and white heart confetti filled the air, making for some stunning footage. After that, we grabbed family and friend photos, while I floated around capturing more of the fun in the bowling hall and bar area.

Making the Most of Holmes Mill’s Character

Holmes Mill itself is a dream venue for alternative couples. From the industrial architecture to the iconic red double-decker bus, there’s no shortage of cool backdrops. We took full advantage — including Liz casually sitting on the bus bonnet like the absolute legend she is.

Music-Infused Decor & Killer Details

Back in the main hall, the space had been transformed for the wedding breakfast. Music is a massive part of Liz & Charlie’s lives, so each table was decorated with a different LP from their favourite bands — Black Sabbath, The Cure, Deftones, Alexisonfire, and more.

Other tablescape highlights? Little stuffed pumpkins, tiny ghost candles, bespoke ‘Mr & Mrs Dutton’ Love Hearts sweets, and cans of Irn-Bru (a bold and beautiful choice!). Every detail was a reflection of them, and it made the whole space feel so personal.

Capturing the Story, Even Without the Party Footage

Liz & Charlie booked my 6-hour package, so I wasn’t there for the evening party, but that didn’t stop me from crafting a wedding film packed with all the personality, love, and chaos of their day. Sometimes, less is more — and with the incredible details they’d put into every corner, there was no shortage of gorgeous footage to work with.

The Dream Team

I had the absolute pleasure of working alongside Maddie Farris Photography, whose natural, candid style fit perfectly with Liz & Charlie’s vibe. We bounced ideas off each other all day and kept the whole thing relaxed and fun.

Alternative Love Stories from The Unwedding Book of Love

Massive shoutout to The Unwedding — the very place where Liz & Charlie found me. They knew they wanted an alternative wedding videographer who would get their vibe, and I’m so chuffed they found me there.

Supplier Love

It takes a brilliant crew to pull off a day like this, so here’s a shoutout to the incredible suppliers who brought Liz & Charlie’s vision to life:
